SONG PREPARATION
To ensure that your audio files are ready for mixing, kindly follow these steps:
-
Alignment: Make sure all tracks in your project/DAW session are aligned and start from the same point.
-
Export Settings: Export your audio tracks as 24bit, 44.1Khz/48kHz WAV files.
-
Effects: Keep effects to a minimum or, ideally, leave them completely dry. Only include effects that are essential to the song’s arrangement or character. Be particularly cautious with reverb and compression, as these are often difficult to adjust during mixing. A good rule of thumb is to apply no effects at all.
-
MIDI Tracks: Convert all MIDI tracks to audio, ensuring stereo synth instruments are rendered to stereo files if needed.
-
Panning: Center the panning of all tracks before exporting.
-
Labelling: Clearly label each track (e.g., 01_KickDrum, 02_Snare, 03_HiHat, etc.).
-
Master Output: Ensure that there are no effects on the master output bus when exporting your audio tracks.
-
Rough Mix: If possible, provide a rough mix to help guide the mixing process (optional but helpful).
-
Reference Tracks: If available, please send up to 3 reference tracks that represent the sound you’re aiming for.
-
File Packaging: Place all audio files into a zip file, clearly labelled with the artist’s name, song title, and BPM (beats per minute).
-
File Delivery: Upload your files to a file transfer site i.e. Dropbox, WeTransfer, and Google Drive and send us the download link.
